Poor Rip and Co. ! In this weeks strips Rip has been Calvin and Hobbes-ified by a hallucinogenic gas the evil group SKULL dispensed in Rip’s office! I’m always trying to think of funny situations Rip could get in to when this one popped into my head. I’ve done a week like this before where Rip needed a job to keep his secret identity secret to his neighbors. Rip became a driving instructor for the Zits teens, and blew up Arlo and Janis, Pickles, and Blondie’s yards as a landscaper. It’s a funny way to tell a comic strip story. As the saying goes “Anything can happen in a comic strip!”
My love for Calvin and Hobbes knows no bounds—Bill Watterson is the cartoonist that made me see how much fun you could have within 3 or 4 comic panels. So this is a tribute to his mastery of the comic strip medium. And by dumb luck it happens to be the 25th anniversary of Calvin and Hobbes which ran from 1985 to 1995.
